Thesis Title: The psychology of interrogative suggestibility
About
I have a doctorate in Psychology (awarded July 2010) and i'm a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society. From April 2009 till November 2011 i was a lecturer in psychology at the University of Derby. In October 2011 until Sept 2012 i will be a visiting research associate at the Institute of Education, University of London. From December 5th 2011 i shall also be commencing an academic post at Brunel University.
Owing to my research experience and expertise I also act (at intervals) as a consultant for police forces on the interviewing of vulnerable suspects and have on an ad hoc basis provided input and consultancy for both the Innocence Project New York in the United States and PAFAA (People Against False Accusations of Abuse) on a couple of cases of alleged wrongful conviction. These involved disputed complainant evidence and possible false confession. Additional professional involvements include ad hoc peer reviewing and editorial board duties.
My research interests centre around (and am keen to supervise motivated students in the areas of): Individual differences in psychological vulnerability (such as interrogative suggestibility and compliance) during police interviews as well as broader (clinical) psychopathologies such as the development of emotional and behavioural problems across the life-span using longitudinal design methods, and also research into differential susceptibility to positive and negative environmental influences.
